Halesite Responds to Two Fire Calls in the Overnight

Monday, May 30, 2011

The Halesite Fire Department responded to two fire calls in the overnight hours between Sunday, May 29th and Monday, May 30, 2011.

The first alarm occurred at Grasso's Restaurant where Halesite was called by the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department for mutual aid around 10:40 pm. The second occurred in Halesite's Fire District behind Knutson Marine at approximately 4:30 am.

At the second fire, a 35' motor boat in the yard caught fire and was free burning until firefighters from Halesite and Huntington extinguished the blaze. Approximately 25 firefighters from both departments responded to the fire under the command of Chief Andy Magerle. The fire, which gutted one boat and spread to at least one other, is currently under investigation.
