The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before. |

2011 Recruitment Drive Now in Progress

The Halesite Fire Department has officially launched its recruitment drive for 2011. To support this year's initiative, Halesite is holding two new member open house events in July. These events are being promoted through new signs that are being put around the District, a banner being placed on the firehouse, as well as through new messaging on our website and through social and local media.
According to Chief Andy Magerle, "the Halesite Fire Department is in need of volunteers. Our membership is at the lowest level since 1985, yet the number of annual alarms is up nearly 150% ."
The Halesite Fire Department is looking for men and women age 18 and older who are willing to help their neighbor with fire and/or rescue services. We are especially in need of volunteers who are around during the daytime.
Why volunteer? There is a tremendous feeling of pride when you come to another persons aid during a time of need. There are other benefits too. We offer access to department sports like golf and softball. We sponsor numerous family events throughout the year. And we offer the opportunity to receive tax deductions, a pension as well as life insurance and other fringe benefits.
You can join to ride the ambulance, be a firefighter, or both. No experience is necessary--we will train and equip you to provide these services. For more information youre invited to attend one of two open house events set up exclusively for people interested in volunteering with the Halesite Fire Department. They will take place on:
Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:00 am
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 7:30 pm
During your visit, well give you a tour of the firehouse, let you meet with current volunteers and give you the opportunity to put your hands on actual firefighting and rescue equipment.
