Halesite Caps Busy Super Bowl Sunday with Working House Fire

Monday, February 6, 2012

The Halesite Fire Department capped a busy Super Bowl Sunday with a working fire on Fort Hill Road in Huntington at 4:38 am early Monday morning. The fire was called in by the homeowner who returned from work to find smoke coming from the first floor of his house. The fire, which began on the first floor, burned through to the basement creating two floors of fire.

Halesite's response was coordinated by Chief Andy Magerle with support from 1st Assistant Chief Dan McConnell and 2nd Assistant Chief Greg Colonna. Both the Centerport and Huntington Fire Departments supplied additional Engines to the scene. Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department served as the Rapid Intervention Team and Huntington Manor and the Huntington Community First Aid Squad stood by at Halesite's headquarters. Over 60 personnel responded to the alarm and no injuries were reported. The fire is currently under investigation.

Earlier on Super Bowl Sunday Halesite's Hose Rescue Company sponsored its 7th Annual Pancake Breakfast. Nearly 350 people from the community attended the event making this the Company's most successful fund raiser ever.

Also Sunday morning, Halesite firefighters participated in the Department's annual ice rescue drill in Huntington Harbor. Despite no ice to work with in the Harbor, Halesite's members donned protective equipment and practiced rescue drills in the cold water.
