On Monday, May 19th, at approximately 6:30pm, the Halesite Fire Department was called to a motor vehicle accident behind the firehouse. A white SUV had driven through the park, crashed through the fence and ended up in Huntington Harbor. First responders discovered a single victim, who had self-extricated from the submerged vehicle. They were informed by the victim that there were no other passengers in the vehicle. The victim was removed from the water and was transported to Huntington Hospital by Halesite's Rescue Squad.

30 members responded under the command of Chief Dan McConnell and 2nd Asst. Chief Jamie Magerle. No injuries were reported, but one Halesite firefighter was transported to Huntington Hospital for evaluation after exposure to the cold waters of Huntington Harbor. Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department was called for their dive team, and Centerport Fire Department provided Advanced Life Support to the patient. The Huntington Harbormaster also responded along with Suffolk County Police.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County PD. The car was removed by the police around 10:30pm.
