Halesite Battles House Fire

Saturday, February 3, 2018

At approximately 12:34pm on Saturday February 3rd, the Halesite Fire Department was activated for reports of smoke and flames visible in a two story house in Huntington Bay.

Upon arrival, Chief Greg Colonna confirmed the working house fire with Halesite Fire Department Dispatch and was advised by neighbors that the resident was not home, however the resident's dog was home. The neighbors made efforts to locate the animal (the dog was found later by firefighters during fire operations, however it had passed). The first due engine attacked the fully involved, and very hot house fire head on and made entry to the house. Interior firefighters methodically and aggressively attacked the fire on both floors of the house and managed to extinguish the flames. Overhaul operations commenced behind the nozzle teams.

Approximately 50 firefighters were on scene and under command of Chief Greg Colonna and Assistant Chief James Magerle. Mutual Aid was provided by Huntington Fire Department, Centerport Fire Department and Huntington Manor FD on Scene. Fire Standby was provided by Cold Spring Harbor FD and Rescue standby was provided by Greenlawn FD. Two firefighters were transported to Huntington Hospital for medical review with very minor conditions and were released on Saturday.
