I joined to help my neighbors and that's exactly what we do. We are the people our neighbors look to in the worst situations, because they know we will always be there.

Scholarships Awarded to Children of Halesite Ex-Chiefs

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

The Huntington Fire Chiefs Council recently presented scholarships awards to six students at a ceremony held at the Northport Fire Department. The six recipients, selected at random from 85 applicants, were Nicholas Vadasz of Northport, Lindsay Magerle of Huntington, Kelly Wilbur of Halesite, Joseph A. Amendolare of Greenlawn, Pat Barbuto of Huntington Station and Peter Paccione, Jr., of Commack.

The $500 scholarships are awarded each year by the Huntington Chiefs Council. They are in memory of several past members of the Council including Dix Hills Chief Terry Farrell and Huntington Manor Chief Peter Nelson, both of FDNY Rescue 4 who were killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. The scholarships also commemorate Huntington Manor Fire Chaplain Richard Holst and Dix Hills firefighter Walter Hessling who both died in the line of duty in 2009, as well as Huntington Manor Ex-Chief and Commissioner Joe Lynch and Town of Huntington Supervisor's representative Billie Pastore.

Lindsay, a member of the Huntington Community First Aid Squad Explorer Post, is the daughter of Halesite Fire Department Ex-Chief Pete Magerle and is attending Robert Morris University in PA, where she is a Communications major. Lindsay's mother, Heidi, is a member of Halesite's Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.

Kelly, the daughter of Halesite Fire Department Ex-Chief Peter Wilbur, is attending Suffolk County Community College where she is a criminal justice major.
