Danny Wilbur Named Honorary Chief of the Halesite Fire Department

The Halesite Fire Department is proud to announce that Danny Wilbur was sworn in as Honorary Chief during a ceremony on December 9, 2010 at fire headquarters. Danny is the son of Ex-Chief Pete Wilbur, nephew of former Secretary Bob Wilbur and grandson of former longtime member Daniel Wilbur.
During the ceremony, Danny was sworn in by Bob Kocis, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, and received his own Chief's helmet with a personalized shield by Chief Andy Magerle. He was also presented with his own Honorary Chief's badge to wear on a Department-issued uniform, which was pinned on Danny by his father.
The ceremony was attended by Department members in Class A uniform, the Ladies Auxiliary and several friends and family members. Following the ceremony, Ex-Chief Pete Wilbur thanked the Department for the recognition of his son. He said, "On behalf of my family, I want to thank you all very much. This is what the Fire Department is all about."

Danny is only the third person to be honored as Honorary Chief during the Department's 110 years. The other two are F. Rogers Ketcham, former Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, and Walter Lockwood, Halesite's Sergeant-at-Arms for more than 50 years.
