The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before. |

Halesite Fire Department's Summer Recruitment Drive a Success

The Halesite Fire Department is pleased to announce the results of its summer recruitment drive. Over the past few months eight new members have been added to the department's rolls. These new members are:
Kyle Conlon, Hook & Ladder Company
Sheila Ewers, Hose Rescue Company
Joe Grant, Hose Rescue Company
John Hardiman, Hook & Ladder Company
Kate Kuntz, Hook & Ladder Company
Frank Stalzer, Hook & Ladder Company
Don Tesoriero, Hose Rescue Company
Matt Oesch, Hose Rescue Company
According to 2nd Assistant Chief Dan McConnell, who also serves as the department's recruitment coordinator, "These eight new members join a tradition of service to the Halesite community that dates back over 100 years to 1901--and their timing couldn't be better since we're on track in 2009 to have one of our busiest years ever."
All members of the Halesite Fire Department are volunteers--no one is ever paid for responding to alarms. People interested in joining the fire department can become firefighters, rescue members or both. Training and equipment are provided at no cost and the minimum age to join is 18.
