The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Halesite Hosts Firefighter 1 Training Program

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Suffolk County Fire Training Academy selected the Halesite Fire Department to hold one of its main course offering this year. Firefighter 1 is the formal training requirement new firefighters must complete in order to come off of probation and become a full-fledged member. Only a handful of these courses are offered in Suffolk County each year.

The course, taught by highly skilled instructors from the Suffolk County Fire Training Academy, is a combination of lectures and hands-on field work that concludes with a formal written exam. Firefighter 1 is a rigorous course and is recognized as among the best in the nation.

Halesite was selected to hold this training program due to the success of its recruitment efforts over the past year. A total of 14 new Halesite members are enrolled to take the Firefighter 1 class or its companion program, Scene Support Operations. They will be joined by new members from other fire departments around the Town of Huntington as well as from fire departments in Suffolk County.
