Halesite Re-certifies Three EMTs
Tuesday, March 5, 2013
The Halesite Fire Department is pleased to announce that three of its Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have re-certified their license. These members are Joe Grant, Kate Kuntz and Alex Niedziela.
EMT training requirements are significant and get more in-depth at every re-certification. People who re-certify today are trained not only in providing basic life support, but they are also required to complete training in hazardous materials and incident management. Excluding hands-on and written tests, EMTs who re-certify today have to complete 65 hours of formal in-class training.
Halesite has 28 EMTs today. While this is the most in its history, rescue calls continue to climb. Through February 2013, for example, rescue calls are up almost 50% versus the same time last year. That's a lot considering that in 2012, Halesite responded to 372 rescue calls, which was 54% of all alarms. So EMTs are very much needed in Halesite.
