The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Members of the Halesite Fire Department had a busy July 4th weekend involving several parades and stand-bys commemorating our country's independence.

On the morning of July 4th, Halesite joined several fire departments from the Town of Huntington in the Eatons Neck FD parade and wash down. This annual event is the very picture of July 4th with hundrends of residents and firefighters coming together to pay tribute to the country's independence. It culminates in a tribute each year at Hobart Beach where attendees hear from local dignitaries and then attend a BBQ at the Eatons Neck Fire Department.

Halesite participated in this year's festivities with its antique fire truck, the Fox, its mini-pumper, 222, and a Class A Pumper, 228.

Also on July 4th was the annual Bay Hills parade in Huntington Bay. Halesite's Class A Pumper, 221, participated in this parade with Ex-Chief Walt Sammis and member KC Anna. After the parade, local children were able to spray water from the truck's booster reel at Bay Hills Beach.

During the nighttime, Halesite's ambulance stood-by at the Bay Club as part of the safety preparations for the Grucci fireworks display off Asharoken Beach. Halesite was part of a mulit-agency response coordinated by the Town of Huntington to ensure public safety.

On July 5th, Halesite joined with the Centerport Fire Department in standing-by at The Crescent Club for their annual fireworks display. Halesite provided one ambulance and both departments sent one engine. This year's show was put on by Bay Fireworks and went on for 30 spectacular minutes.
