Halesite Fire Chief Dan McConnell gave a report during the Village's organizational meeting. Halesite Fire Department's Engine Company Captain, Dom Spada, was appointed Deputy Mayor during the Village of Huntington Bay's annual organizational meeting on July 8th. Spada, who also serves as the Village of Huntington Bay's Police Commissioner, was recently elected as one of the Village's Trustees.
Also during the meeting was a report from Halesite Chief Dan McConnell. The Chief gave a mid-year update on fire and rescue calls in the Village and briefly discussed some of the initiatives going on at the fire house.
Chief McConnell used the meeting as an opportunity to announce a recent grant Halesite received from FEMA. The grant, for $25,200, will fund the procurement and distribution of free combination carbon monoxide/smoke detectors with long battery life. The units are scheduled for distribution to District residents on October 6, 2013 at Halesite's annual Fire Prevention Open House. Special priority will be given to residents age 65 and older and those with children under the age of 14.
