Halesite Adds 4 New EMTs to Its Ranks
Thursday, August 1, 2013
Halesite's new EMT's: Hose Rescue Co. members KC Anna and Evan Meyers, Hook & Ladder Co. member Rick Oh, and Engine Co. Captain Dominic Spada The Halesite Fire Department is proud to announce that KC Anna, Evan Meyers, Rick Oh, and Dominic Spada have all successfully completed the training required by New York State to become EMT's.
EMT training requirements are significant and get more in-depth every year. People who are certified today are trained not only in providing basic life support, but they are also required to complete training in hazardous materials and incident management. The EMT certification class is approximately 146 hours not including testing time.
With the addition of these 4, Halesite has 32 EMTs today which means that 40% of members are certified EMT's. While this is the most in its history, rescue calls continue to climb. The department has responded to 193 rescue calls this year so far, so EMT's are certainly needed for our response.
