The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Halesite Extinguishes House Fire on Abbott Drive

The Halesite Fire Department was called to a house fire on Abbott Drive at approximately 4:00 am Friday morning, August 30th. The fire, which was visible on arrival, caused extensive damage to the structure.

Approximately 60 firefighters from Halesite, Huntington, Huntington Manor, Centerport and Cold Spring Harbor faught the blaze. Northport Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad stood-by at Halesite's headquarters and Greenlawn Fire Department sent an ambulance to the scene. The fire was declared under control at 5:23 am.

The scene was under the command of Chief Dan McConnell with assistance provided by 1st Assistant Chief Greg Colonna and 2nd Assistant Chief Jamie Magerle.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. There were no injuries reported.
