Halesite Celebrates Two 50 Year Members
Saturday, February 27, 2010
Members of the Halesite Fire Department, along with dignitaries and invited guests from around the community, gathered on February 27, 2010 to celebrate two members of the Engine Company who recently reached 50 years of active service. Dennis Magerle and Don Pope join an elite group of members within Halesite who have achieved this rare milestone. Both men are former Halesite Chiefs and are among the department's most active members.
During the ceremony both men received Proclamations commending their achievement from Congressional, State, County and Town Officials. Both were given American flags that were flown over the U.S. Capital in their honor, and both were presented with custom gold badges on behalf of the Halesite Fire District.
Pictured above are Halesite's two honorees, Dennis Magerle and Don Pope, along with Chief Andy Magerle, 1st Assistant Chief Dan McConnell and 2nd Assistant Chief Greg Colonna.
The Halesite Fire Department has a long tradition of service to the community. Founded in 1901, membership ranges from people who are part of several generations of families in the department to members who are brand new to the fire service.
