The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Members of the Halesite Fire Department marched in the 81st St. Patrick's Day Parade in the Town of Huntington yesterday.

Halesite's members were led by Chief Dan McConnell, who also is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the parade's organizer.

For the first time in several decades Halesite had Junior Firefighters marching with them. 17 Juniors joined with 32 Firefighters in the route from Huntington Station just north of the Railroad Station to St. Patrick's Church in Huntington Village. Accompanying Halesite was the Inis Fada Gaelic Pipe Band.

The parade was well attended with the weather finally warming up to the mid-40's. Afterwards, Halesite's members and their families assembled back at the firehouse for a traditional corned beef and cabbage meal as well as fine Irish music and much camaraderie.
