The Huntington Fire Department responded to multiple reports of smoke in the vicinity of New Street south of Main Street in Huntington Village, Monday night, March 16, 2015, at around 10 p.m. Firefighters located the fire in the rear of a Laundromat at 28 New Street and began an aggressive attack on the blaze. Huntington firefighters were assisted by the Halesite, Huntington Manor, Cold Spring Harbor, Centerport and Greenlawn fire departments as well as the Huntington Community First Aid Squad. About 80 firefighters battled the blaze using 12 trucks and had the fire knocked-down within a half hour, under the command of Huntington Fire Chief Robert Berry, with operations by Deputy Chiefs Jesse Cukro and Brian Keane. Firefighters checked adjoining businesses for extension of the fire, which was declared under control in about 1-1/2 hours. The Laundromat was extensively damaged by the fire, with minimal fire extension and smoke and water damage to the adjacent P's & Q's Auto Body, which is a bar. The New York Sports Club, Revive Nails and Spa, and 34 New Street, a former restaurant which closed in February, all sustained smoke damage. There were no injuries reported and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal are investigating. Suffolk Fire-Rescue Coordinators were also on the scene providing assistance.
