Photo Credit: Steve Silverman Story by Steve Silverman- from The Huntingtonian Volunteers from the Halesite Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on East Neck Road on Saturday morning, May 16, at 10:09 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with an involved attic fire which soon spread to the second floor of the home.
Under the command of Halesite Fire Chief Dan McConnell, firefighters began an aggressive interior attack through the front door and up the spiral staircase to the second floor. Firefighters were able to push back the flames and confine the fire to the attic and rear of the home. Smoke and water damage were reported to the remainder of the house.
The Halesite FD was on the scene with two engines, a ladder truck and ambulance. They were assisted at the scene by the Huntington, Centerport, and Cold Spring Harbor FD's, with Huntington Manor on standby at Halesite's firehouse. Nearly 50 firefighters using six trucks had the blaze under control in about 1-1/4 hours. There were no injuries reported, and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating.
