The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Seven Rescued from Capsized Boat in Huntington Bay

At approximately 10:30 am on Sunday, September 27, 2015, Halesite FD was called for a water rescue at Wincoma point in Huntington Bay.

A boat with seven passengers capsized approximately 100 yards off of the beach. All passengers were able to make it to Wincoma beach and were evaluated and released by EMTs from Halesite and the Centerport Fire Department. Huntington Fire Department and Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department also responded to the alarm.

The scene was under command of Chief Dan McConnell with help from Assistant Chiefs Greg Colonna and Jamie Magerle.
