Summer Safety-Hot Tips!

Thursday, June 13, 2024

Summer is coming soon, and we are fired up to help you stay safe while you sizzle under the sun, make a splash, and grill to your heart's content. We've cooked up some hot tips to keep you cool and safe this season.

Heat Safety

-Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine as they can lead to dehydration.
-Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing. Don't forget your hat and sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
-Limit Sun Exposure: Try to stay indoors during peak heat hours, typically from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you need to be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or a cool place.
-Check on Vulnerable Neighbors: Ensure that elderly neighbors and those with health conditions are coping well with the heat. Offer assistance if needed.
-Never Leave Pets or Children in your Car: temperatures will continues to rise as time goes on, and leaving windows slightly open does not significantly slow the heating process.

Swimming Safety

-Supervise Children: Never leave children unattended near water. Ensure they have proper flotation devices if they are not strong swimmers.
-Swim in Designated Areas: Only swim in areas supervised by lifeguards. Be aware of the water conditions and any posted warnings.

BBQ Safety

-Grill Outdoors Only: Always use grills outside in a well-ventilated area, away from the house, deck railings, and overhanging branches.
-Keep Children and Pets Away: Maintain a safe zone of at least three feet around the grill to keep kids and pets safe.
-Use Proper Tools: Utilize long-handled tools to avoid burns, and never leave the grill unattended.
-Properly Dispose of Coals: Let coals cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container. Never place them in plastic, paper, or wood containers.

With these tips in mind, you're sure to have a blazing good time this summer while staying safe.
