	The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Fire Prevention Open House Sunday 9/29/24

On Sunday September 29th, from 11am-2pm, the Halesite Fire Department invites all residents and their families to our annual Fire Prevention Open House and to learn this year's theme, "Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!". Learn about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home and testing them regularly, and replacing them promptly. We have arranged for numerous live demonstrations including fire evacuation instructions using the Smoke House trailer, effective use of extinguishers with live fire, how to perform hands-only CPR (must register in advance for this FREE class), Blood Pressure screenings, plus tours of the firehouse, tours of our apparatus and more. We also continue to celebrate our 1924 Ahrens Fox Fire Engine's 100th Anniversary; learn about this iconic truck that has been serving the community longer than any member, take photos on the Fox, or purchase a collectible t-shirt to mark this momentous occasion! Just as in years past, this year's open house will be a great time for residents of the community and their children to learn more about fire prevention and to meet some of the men and women who volunteer as firefighters or EMT's. There will be free refreshments, giveaways, contests and prizes for kids and adults.
