The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Halesite Extinguishes Late Morning Basement Fire on Bay Avenue

The Halesite Fire Department was alerted by a neighbor to a basement fire on Bay Avenue in Huntington Bay last Saturday, May 7, 2011. Twenty-seven firefighters under the command of Chief Andy Magerle responded to the unoccupied home along with an Engine Company from the Huntington Fire Department and a Rapid Intervention Team from Centerport. The Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department stood by at Halesite's headquarters with an additional pumper. No firefighters were hurt in the operation and the fire is currently under investigation by authorities.
