	The fire service can be challenging, as well as rewarding. I believe that no matter how long you are a member (and I have been a member since 1968), you can never say, "I have seen it all!" While many alarms are routine, eventually you use your training and skills to cope with a situation that you have not encountered before.

Halesite Fire Department Honored for Blood Drives

During the annual Long Island Blood Services Donor Group Recognition Dinner the Halesite Fire Department was honored with the third highest award given. The dinner featured awards for the top donor groups for 2008. Halesite received the Pacesetter Award for collecting 140 pints of blood at two drives during the calender year. Chief Kurt Martin credits the tireless work by the Halesite Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and firefighters for the continued success of the blood drives. Because of outstanding support from the community and regular donors Halesite received awards for each of the past three years. Chief Martin urges the community to attend our next blood drive on August 21st from 3:30 to 8:30PM at the Halesite firehouse. Donate blood and enjoy a complimentary steak dinner prepared by Halesite firefighters.
