Halesite Names Ex-Chief Kurt Martin as 2010 Firefighter of the Year

The Halesite Fire Department named Ex-Chief Kurt Martin as its 2010 Firefighter of the Year during the Department's annual Installation Dinner held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Harbor Club.

Ex-Chief Martin was recognized for his many contributions to the department since leaving office as Chief in 2009. In his remarks leading up to the recognition of Ex-Chief Martin, 1st Assistant Chief Dan McConnell acknowledged Martin's ongoing leadership within not only the Halesite Fire Department but also as part of the fire service in the Town of Huntington.

McConnell said, "Already an enormous contributor to the Halesite Fire Department for many decades, this person not too long ago had justification to slow down and take it easy. After finishing out 7 years as Chief, this person remained among our busiest members in 2010 and went to take on new roles to evolve and develop this fire department. He became part of the Truck Committee; became a Trustee for the Hook & Ladder Company; co-chaired the newly formed Bi-Laws Committee and ran and was elected to Commissioner of the Centerport Fire District."
