Halesite Participates in Extrication Tournament Honoring Fallen Firefighter

The Haleiste Fire Department was pleased to be one of nearly two dozen fire departments from around Long Island to take part in the Fourth Annual Chuck Varese Vehicle Extrication Tournament on Saturday May 14, 2011. 2nd Assistant Chief Greg Colonna led Halesite's contingent, and was joined by Mike Colonna and Mike Waring.

The event is named after Chuck Varese, son of former Northport Chief, Robert Varese, who was fatally struck four years ago by an intoxicated motorist on Route 25A in Centerport. The competition is designed to build camaraderie between fire departments and its members, as well as to share valuable lifesaving extrication techniques, which will ultimately help to save precious time when a victim's life is in jeopardy.
